About this Workshop
Did you know Ireland’s marine territory is nearly 10 times the size of our land? From whales to seabirds and marine plants, Ireland has rich marine biodiversity.
‘Dive into’ marine ecosystems to discover the diversity and complexity of life under the sea with this workshop! We’ll explore the importance of marine biodiversity and how it is threatened in today’s world, as well as ways we can all protect our oceans for the future.
Why do this workshop?
Are you curious about the diversity of marine life in Ireland and around the world? If you are passionate about protecting marine plant and animal species, then this workshop is for you!
By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:
- Understand the importance of the oceans for biodiversity and human resources.
- Identify good vs bad biodiverse environments.
- Describe the layers of the ocean.
- Assess the threats to marine ecosystems.
- Investigate individual and collective global solutions to marine life threats.
Pre-Workshop Information
The session will run for approximately 90 minutes and this includes time for you and your participants to complete activities and topic discussions. We have provided guideline times for activities, however please feel free to spend whatever time you feel is appropriate to ensure your participants gain the most from the activities. Instructions and printable materials for the activities are provided in the first lesson of this course; you are invited to view these before you intend to start the workshop. You’ll also receive helpful follow-on resources for post-workshop environmental action!
